In Dutch and Japanese tradition and cultural accessories, the hairpin plays a big role. This hairpin is developed with the idea to look for boundaries of what we value. It plays with elements of the packaging, plastic chain, broken ceramics and plastic diamonds in combination with the traditional Japanese ceramics Arita-yaki technique, Urushi Technique and Raden Technique. In the Arita-yaki technique you find a lot of similarities with the Dutch Delfts Blauw and in the print and colours we search for the boundaries of difference and similarities between these techniques. The hairpin refines the balance of high precious materials and low culture elements like packaging and plastic. We chose to work with the gold of packaging and fake gold leaf instead of the high precious gold leaf that is normally used for the technique Kintsugi. With this choice we want to play with the value of gold that has been created in our cultures. Also RA! is always searching for alternatives for the waste full and unfair industry of precious metals, mining and minerals.

This technique can also be used to repair your broken products such as a vases, jewellery pieces etc. We provide a repair service that with these beautiful ancient techniques will bring your beloved items a second life.
